M.D. Candan Gürses

Prof. Dr. Candan Gürses graduated from Hacettepe University Medical School in 1987 and went to the Montreal Neurological Institute to work as an epilepsy fellow for 24 months following her neurology residency. She worked at Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Neurology Department between 1997-2018 where she became assoc. prof. in 2003 and professor in 2010. She has 100 papers published in SCI indexed Journals, as well as 10 book chapters on status epilepticus, reflex epilepsy, photosensitivity, hot water epilepsy, progressive myoclonic epilepsy, juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, genetics, rat-blood brain barrier studies, anti-epileptic drugs in epilepsy animal models, subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE), and neurosyphilis. She has been invited to speak at several international conferences, and as guest author in the Supplement of Epilepsia 2012. She was the president of Turkish Epilepsy Society between 20142016, the director of the Epilepsy Center – EPIMER at Istanbul University between 2015-2018. She has conducted several drug trials as principal investigator. She has been recently focusing on HFO and nano-particules in epilepsy studies.
